Whitby Heritage Skills Centre CIC.
Building practical skills, confidence and opportunity through hands-on learning

Whitby Heritage Skills Centre is a not-for-profit project in development, focused on creating a practical training hub where people can learn traditional, trade and life skills through hands-on experience. Our aim is to support individuals, particularly those who are unemployed, under-employed or not currently in education or training, to build confidence, skills and pathways into work.

Where We Are Now

Whitby Heritage Skills Centre is currently in its early stages of development. We are actively working to secure funding, a suitable base and essential equipment to enable us to begin delivering courses and workshops.

While we do not yet have a permanent location, the project is being carefully planned with a clear vision, defined course pathways and strong community purpose.

As funding and facilities are secured, we will begin introducing pilot sessions, workshops and longer-term training opportunities.

What the Centre will offer

Once a suitable base is secured, the Centre will provide a range of hands-on courses and workshops covering:

 - Foundation and core practical skills

 - Trade and employability-focused training

 - Traditional and heritage craft skills

 - Open workshop and repair sessions

Full course details will be published once premises and equipment are secured.

Volunteers & Supporters

Powered by People, Skills and Community

All volunteers and supporters are valued, supported, and contribute at a level that suits them.

Whitby Heritage Skills Centre will be built on the generosity, experience and enthusiasm of local people.

Our volunteers, supporters and partners help us preserve traditional skills, support young people, and create practical opportunities for learning, confidence and community connection.

Whether you can give your time, share your skills, or support us in other ways, you'll be helping to build something lasting for Whitby and the surrounding area.

Hands-on Volunteers

Give your time and be a part of something meaningful.

Volunteers support workshops, help maintain tools and spaces, assist learners, and share practical knowledge. No formal qualifications required - just enthusiasm and a willingness to help.

Share your Skills

Tradespeople, craftspeople, makers and professionals can support sessions, mentor learners, or help us develop new courses.

Your experience can inspire confidence and open doors for others.

Support the Centre

Local Businesses, organisations and individuals can support us through donations, materials, sponsorship, or partnership working.

Every contribution helps us keep workshops accessible and affordable.
